Sam Guttman, Comedian, MusicianSam Guttman

Sam’s Story

Sam was born in Paris, one of five children to French Tunisians. Before the age of one, he immigrated to Sioux City, Iowa. By three, he was living in Venice Beach, California, where “Bay Watch” meant two old men squinting off the edge of the pier.

Sam was an average student, good in music and the arts, but required teachers of exceptional focus and good aim to hit him with a thrown eraser. By the first day of fifth grade, he knew his reputation as class goof had preceeded him when he discovered his desk had already been assigned to the hallway.

At 18, Sam had spent the better part of the year living and working in Europe and the Middle East, where he learned to speak French, as well as the many universal hand gestures, just to find a bathroom. He learned quickly how to avoid the rock-throwing hecklers in the Gaza Strip. Talk about a tough crowd…

Truly a Renaissance man, his many journeys have taken him from bluegrass guitarist, swimming instructor, holistic healer, masseur, actor, writer, comic, carpenter, co-dependent -- just to name a few.

Sam has recently built his home and furniture in Northern California, with the help of his courageous and supportive wife/nurse/steady-paycheck. He has two beautiful daughters, who will never date or drive, and who still wonder what dad does for a living.

Sam’s Comedy

Sam’s endless list of performances range from corporations to military bases to district attorneys offices to private parties on ferry boats. He has worked most major comedy clubs from Alaska to Florida and has also performed character parts on television and film. Sam is also an accomplished guitarist and song writer.

Sam has the ability to laugh at himself as he scats through a host of topical events, stories and personal struggles. His natural sense of the absurd will always keep you laughing. Add to this, a bundle of impressions and dialects the likes of Elvis, Al Pacino and Forest Gump, to name a few.

You’ll find your party, event, seminar, benefit, or donkey raffle flying down the highway of life with Sam as your comic bus driver. He'll even customize his comedy to fit your group.
